It’s one of those days where I can’t figure out what kind of mood I’m in. Right now, I’m kinda in this weird, UK glitch hop kind of vibe but I’m not sure that I’m quite sold on it. I’ve already gone down the nostalgic rabbit hole and, unfortunately, it did very little for me. Maybe I need something heavy today. Maybe I need some metal. I’m not sure what kind of metal but let’s try some melodic death metal in the form of “Frozen” by The Pinetree Tapes.
This brutal and fast song instantly hit the spot. “Frozen” is about moving on but it’s also about accepting fate and about how something can be beautiful and horrifying at the same time. Clearly inspired by bands like Children of Bodom and Wintersun, “Frozen” is the kind of that instantly jolts your system. It’s nearly four minutes of relentless power and intensity broken up by a small interlude in the middle of the song that finally gives you a chance to breathe before The Pinetree Tapes plunge you back into their dark black death metal world. After this little break, there’s a super eerie sound that sent chills up my spine. It doesn’t last long but it’s little intricacies like that one that absolutely put The Pinetree Tapes on the map for me and make “Frozen” a completely irresistable track.
