Are you prepared for the impending snowmageddon? I’ll be honest, I don’t know that I believe it’s going to happen. Are we really going to get over a foot of snow here in the Twin Cities tomorrow night? I’m optimistic and hopelessly dreaming of an epic storm but, let’s be real, the weather people are rarely right and I have a feeling that this is just a scare tactic. Either way, I’m working on a grocery list and working out a plan for if it really does happen. This has nothing to do with “Own Worst Enemy” from FloodHounds but I need a distraction from my doomsday prepping and this song is the perfect kind of distractions because, well, it’s a perfect song.
Right off the bat, FloodHounds hits you with an undeniable sense of swagger with “Own Worst Enemy.” It dirty and sticky in all of the right ways and, when the vocals finally come in, you get to hear the sheer power of this band and all of it’s glory. This song is a groovy anthem about refusing to be dragged down. Whether that’s being dragged down by a job or another person, “Own Worst Enemy” will give you the power to stand up and fight back. There’s something a bit retro and vintage about the swagger in this song that I really gravitated towards. It has a bit of a JET styled glam influence but, overall, stays situated in this just swampy and perfect swagger. I don’t care how good or bad your Friday morning is going. “Own Worst Enemy” is the type of song that will have you hooked and either bring you back to life or give you a burst of energy needed to conquer and close out this wild and wacky week.
