The weather is starting to get nicer up here in the Twin Cities. It has me ready for boat season. I’ve never really been one for boating but, as I get older, I enjoy aimlessly floating in the middle of a lack. I had a friend whose parents had a few boats on a super nice lake up north but that connection is now going so I find myself taking stock on all of my Friends With Boats. Unfortunately, that list is super short, non-existent to be exact, so I am not taking applications for boating friends. Okay, another tortured intro. I’m sorry. It’s just the kind of day I’m having but trust me when I say you’d be a fool to let this terrible intro stop you from checking out “Have Your Say” from Friends With Boats.
In true Friends With Boats fashion, this song hits and it hits you hard and fast. This is an angsty little number that is a sort of call of action to raise your voices against all of the evil happening around the world (and there’s surely plenty of that). Although definitely a bit more angsty than some of the other songs I’ve heard from this amazing band, one this remains and that’s the way this band keeps their hearts and a fierce DIY ethos in the forefront. Sure, it’s angsty and slightly panicked as a track but what really stood out to me was how every word and every note seemed to strike a chord in my heart that made this song resonate throughout my whole body. Friends With Boats is a no frills kind of band. Their songs say what they mean and they mean what they say. If you’re looking for a spark of inspiration, a ray of motivation, this band and “Have Your Say” in particular is absolutely what you need right now.
