I often wonder what it’s like to be a person without any anxiety or stress. Okay, maybe that’s not a thing but I guess I wonder what it’s like to be a person who doesn’t thrive under being uber-stressed out or anxious. Is it nice? Or is it boring? Although I do work best under the gun and slightly manic, I know it’s not good for me and I’m kind of feeling like a I need a change of pace right now. I need to learn how to calm down, slow down and just let things happen as they will. This has nothing to do with “Knives” from Timelines. I just need a break from work and this happens to be the next song on my list to share with you. Thankfully for me, this track gave me a perfect outlet for this feeling of questioning that has taken over me.

Timelines is a post-hardcore band from Worcester, Massachusetts with subtle emo tendencies. It’s those subtle tendencies that drew me into this song and wouldn’t let go. Overall, “Knives” comes off as explosive and powerful but, if you dig into some of the intricacies of the instrumentation and the tone of some of the words, you quickly catch onto something a bit more tender and panicked in a way. There’s a slight sense of desperation hidden behind the giant heart that comes through in this song and it seemed to fit my current mood so perfectly. Add in a little breakdown-styled portion where the instrumentation basically falls out and you are left with just vocals to guide your heart and you have the makings of a truly amazing track.
