I’ve been asked many times how I pick the songs I share out to you. What do I look for? What do I need? Honestly, I don’t have an answer. Sometimes it’s a certain style of music that’s hitting me particularly hard on a given day but, more often than not, it’s just hearing something that sparks a fire inside me. Maybe that’s a fire of comfort, maybe a fire of energy, maybe it’s something completely different. I just like music that makes me feel something and “Lessons Learned” from SHIIVA featuring All Eyez definitely made me feel something the first time I heard it.
It wasn’t just the song that made me feel something here, it was also the video. I saw the video first as the beginning of this song has a small intro. You see a band in a room with walls completely covered in posters and photos. Something about the intimacy of this really had me hooked but it was the music that really had me sold. This is an intense, fast and furious kind of song with a strong hardcore influence but it lacks that gate keeping that I feel comes with a lot of hardcore these days. Something about watching the members of this band power through this song live in this highly decorated room just felt comforting to me and relatable. Add the fact that you can plainly see that the words of this song and the instrumentation means everything to the group and All Eyez (who comes in with an intense verse that will instantly act as a beautiful minute of catharsis, and you are left with the pure gold that is “Lessons Learned” from SHIIVA featuring All Eyez.
