Happy Friday, everyone. We’ve almost made it to the weekend. I’m not sure how today is going to shake out. It’s already been a busy morning with my day job and I’m ready to be done here for the day but, in reality, the day just started. I’m hoping to keep my head above water and the only way I know how to do that is by taking breaks to check out some new music so let’s get today started off right and heck out “Nikki” from Loser Parade.
Grease meets Green Day. That’s how this song was introduced to me and, truthfully, that’s the perfect way to describe this song. It’s a super fun and punky doo-wop anti-smoking anthem. Although the song is super bright, fun, and infectious, there’s a subtle darkness to the lyrics that tell the story of the harms of smoking and the hopes of someone who loving quitting the nasty habit. Truthfully, it wasn’t the lyrics that got me here. Sure, it’s an important message but it’s the creativity that Loser Parade shows in this song that really had me hooked. I mean, come on, punk doo-wop. It’s not an entirely new genre or sound but Loser Parade does it so well and blends the two contrasting genres and sounds so seamlessly.
