Girl at the Rock Shows

It’s hard to keep on a smile on during a manic Monday while it’s gloomy and rainy outside but it’s made a little bit easier by some amazing music like “Smile More” from Oister Boy.

It’s no surprise that I love this band. I’ve had the honor of catching this local group live more than once so am so stoked to be able to share them in a different form (and by that I mean a recorded single) but, really, that doesn’t change anything with this group. Sure, “Smile More” is recorded and you can listen to this from the comfort of wherever you are but I love the fact that I felt this band’s live energy as I listened through this nearly five minute long song over and over again. Much like this band, the message behind this song is complicated. I love the way the vocals and lyrics take a shift from dark to light as they tell the story of this song (which I will not give away so just check it out for yourself) while the instrumentation also takes twists and turns to match the story. This song is dramatic, it’s infectious, it’s dark, bright, fun, sad, angsty, boppy, it’s everything and that’s what makes Oister Boy a band that everyone should keep keeping their eyes on throughout this year. I know I say this a lot about a lot of different bands but I truly think that 2026 is going to be the year of Oister Boy.
