The Riot Fest line-up got announced last week and, yeah, you could say I’m excited. No, scratch that, I’m stoked. Riot Fest has been and always will be one of my favorite weekends of the year, and there are some acts that I am especially excited to check out this year. Although Sludgeworth isn’t on the official Riot Fest line-up, Riot Fest is the one that premiered the video for “Hold Steady” from this new Chicago band, and it just has me thinking about Riot Fest and how cool it would be to catch a show from Sludgeworth while I’m in Chicago for the festival.

Like any good song, “Hold Steady” has a small intro that slowly eases you into Sludgeworth’s world in such an amazing way and a way that allows this band’s power to really take you over when the song hits its stride after about thirty seconds. It’s a pop-punk/emo-leaning track full of emotional power, but there’s also a grit behind this song that seems to contrast the tenderness that can be felt throughout the vocals here. Really, this song isn’t super intense or aggressive at any point of the nearly four minutes that it lasts, yet it caught my attention as a massive breakdown would. I’m not sure what that’s about or how this band has pulled that off, but I know that it’s what drew me into Sludgeworth’s world and has me counting down the days until they release their album ‘Second Time Around’ (due out on June 19th).
