Tonight is the start of an epic, three-day, thirty-plus band festival here in Minneapolis. It’s Caterwaul weekend, and it’s the first time ever that I’ll be able to attend all three days. I’m exhausted just thinking about all of the photos I’ll have to go through and all of the words I’ll be writing, but at the same time, I am absolutely stoked. I just have to get through this pesky day job before I can go home, take an epic nap, and then head out for what is sure to be an amazing weekend. What I’m trying to say is that I’d rather be anywhere but at my desk right now. Thankfully, I have songs like “The Aftermath” from Long Story Short to help take me away from the office and into a dreamland of sorts.
Okay, maybe “The Aftermath” doesn’t lay down a dreamland in the typical form of the word. It’s not super soft and fluffy, rather super energized, and with a sharp tongue, it absolutely transports you with the power that this band is able to pack into this three-minute song. I could see a lot of people calling this pop-punk, and I don’t think that’s entirely false, but I think that just calling this a pop-punk anthem doesn’t do the track justice. There’s so much power and spite here with an almost Rise Against-level of emotion all wrapped up in a bow of a sound that, at times, leans into something a bit harder than you would expect from a pop-punk banger. It leans in and out of an alt-rock world while kneeling in a skate punk kind of atmosphere. Long story short, this is the kind of energy we all need as we go into what is sure to be another insane weekend, so what are you waiting for? Check out “The Aftermath” from Long Story Short now and make sure to show them some love!
