I’m in a very nostalgic mood today. Something about bright and poppy pop-punk anthems is just hitting so perfectly right now, but at the same time, I’m sick of listening to the same thing over and over again. Thankfully, there are a lot of modern bands that are giving a nod to the golden age of pop-punk while keeping things fresh and new. Aviation Lane is one of those bands.

Right off the bat, the Blink-182 nod is clear when it comes to “Batting Practice”. It’s in the tone of the guitar, it’s in the progression of the notes, and it’s in the energy, but this is far from a carbon copy of the kings of pop punk. As the vocals come in, you hear Aviation Lane put their unique twist on a classic sound. The vocals feel a bit harder than bands like Blink-182. Maybe I could say Four Year Strong or something like that, but, honestly, even that doesn’t sound right. Regardless, between those vocals and the energized hooks and soaring melodies, Aviation Lane not only left me with a smile on my face after listening to this quick, two and a half minute long banger, but they left me with a song stuck in my head with no relief in sight. That’s okay, I think today may be a better day if I just keep this song on repeat for a couple of hours.
