I hope you all had a great weekend. I did, but I would also like to know where all of my “free time” disappeared to. I got a lot done, but it wasn’t enough, and now I feel like I’m struggling to keep my head above water as I dive back into a world of work and emails after neglecting both for most of the weekend. That’s okay, though, because I’m starting this week off with “I Don’t Work Here” from Cheekface, which is the perfect amount of snark and energy to get my week started off right.
It’s pretty easy to realize that this song is about working a quite crappy job. Honestly, that in itself makes this a banger of a track. Even if you like your job for the most part, we all have those days where we dream about flipping the desk, flipping the bird, and getting the hell out. This song is about and for those moments. Add in Cheekface’s way of adding a bit of humor and a bit of spice into their everything nice kind of post-punk leaning dance-punk vibe that comes through loud and clear in this song, and you are left with three minutes that will both have you dancing on top of your desk while also slightly cursing your boss.
