I’m not sure what’s up with me today, but I am exhausted. Maybe it’s the thick haze from the wildfires up north that has a grip on the Twin Cities. Maybe I just didn’t get as much sleep as I wanted to, or maybe my mind just never stopped last night, and it has finally hit its breaking point. Regardless, I’m exhausted and struggling to stay awake at this point, so I’m hoping that checking out some new music may help wake me up a bit.

If any song is going to give me the kick in the butt that I need to get moving today, it’s going to be “Shadow” from Profiler. I don’t know who said nu-metal was dead or who decided that rap metal was uncool, but they are wrong. “Shadow” is a nu-metal song that is so full of life, so full of angst, and so full of fire. Sure, there’s a slight sense of cheese that comes through in some of the lyrics of this song, but ultimately, I love the IDGAF (that’s “I don’t give a fuck” for you youngens) energy that comes through in the sharp-tongued lyrics right off the bat. Although definitely situated in the rap-rock/ nu-metal vein of things, I love how there are moments of tenderness scattered throughout this song. Those moments gave me a bit of a Linkin Park kind of emotion, while, overall, this song remained high-energy like any classic Limp Bizkit song. Regardless of your thoughts on the genre, I highly suggest you spend some time with this UK-based band today. I promise that they will fill you with a sense of relentless energy that you may be in desperate need of.
