Okay, I don’t know if I’d actually call myself a ‘Swiftie,’ but I’ll be the first to admit that on high anxiety days, I blare “You Need To Calm Down” from my office and just breathe. Like many of her other songs, it’s a fun little bop that reads as an honest and heart-on-the-sleeve kind of song. Beyond that, I really don’t listen to much Taylor Swift. I just haven’t made the time to go down the rabbithole like Victories did, but after listening to their song “I’m A Swiftie Too,” I’m tempted to do just that.
Like the raw lyrics that come with Taylor Swift songs, the lyrics of this track are raw too, but in a super funny way. It’s about how, no matter how hard you try, no matter how much you say you aren’t, you actually love Taylor Swift’s music… and that’s okay. I hate how people get so stuck on hating something without giving it a chance. Maybe it’s because it’s not in the genre you typically listen to, or maybe it’s because you feel the fame outshines the talent. Regardless, I think everyone likes at least one Taylor Swift song, whether that’s out loud or in private. I love how Victories, a clearly pop-punk-rooted band, admits to this and has written a song about it. There’s really nothing super deep about this track, but it is super infectious and will definitely bring a smile to your face. It also may induce a journey down the Taylor Swift rabbit hole. Don’t be ashamed, just let it happen.
