Happy Friday, everyone. We’ve made it. I don’t know if I should be excited about that or stressed out. I’m stoked that it’s the weekend, which means a reprieve from the day job, but I also know that I didn’t get nearly as much done this week as I wanted to, so it’ll surely be a weekend chain to my desk at home. At least I’ll be home, but I’m not thrilled about the prospect of working through the weekend. That being said, I have a feeling it’ll be a little bit less painful now that I have “America’s Got Talent” from Desk Job. to help get me through.
I adore this band so much. I’ve shared out a handful of singles from them already, so I’m not hiding my love here, but I promise that love is not the same as having a bias. Desk Job. just happens to be one of those bands that can really do no wrong, and one of those acts where each song I hear from them is just a bit better than the last, with this newest one being no exception. “America’s Got Talent” is about the grind (how appropriate). It’s about how we were all promised an image of what life was going to be like when we got older, but now that we are getting there, we realize it was all a lie. Call it capitalism, call it politics, I just call it fucked, and I love how this song seems to carry that energy and weight throughout the three and a half minutes that it lasts. This song is gritty and punchy with a definite lean into a punk vibe, but overall, it feels like just a super perfectly hitting alt-rock sound with the exact amount of power behind it that you need to feel a little grit in your teeth. Long story short, play it loud, and play it often. “America’s Got Talent” from Desk Job. is a new anthem for an entire generation.
