Are you claustrophobic? I am, but it’s not super severe. I think it’s more of an escape thing. I constantly need an escape, and sometimes when you’re in a tight space, you can’t find the exit. That’s the only time I really feel claustrophobic. Although this song is called “CLAUSTROPHOBIA,” I feel like it’s about the bigger picture of panic, and that’s what got me hooked on Great Demise’s world.
This is a riff-heavy jam that is quick and dirty. At just two minutes and twenty seconds, Great Demise fills every second of this track with an insane amount of emotion and feeling, meaning that, at the end of this short song, you may feel exhausted and slightly overwhelmed, but in a good way. This song is catharsis. I know that sounds like a weird sentence, but it’s true and the only way to put it. It’s anxiety in a song. Disorganized thoughts put together in a way that only a chaotic mind can decipher, so naturally, I was into it. The pulse in this song acts as a heartbeat as the rest of the band swirls around it, much like the way we can all get lost in everyday life. Moments of clashing dissonance are the name of the game here, and although it may sound like this entire song is going off the rails, something about the unraveling of emotion throughout this quick song gave me a sense of solace and peace that I so badly needed this Monday morning.
