Girl at the Rock Shows

There was a time last year when I felt like I was hearing a new song from MNERVA every week. I loved it because every song was just a wee bit better than the last, but then, all of a sudden, the songs stopped. I don’t know if I just wasn’t paying close enough attention or maybe I was missing something, but when they came across my desk again recently, my heart skipped a beat. I was excited to hear what this band has been up to, even if this new song was a remix.

Don’t get wrapped up in the “Glitch Gum Remix” part of this song title. Sure, it’s a remix, and you can definitely feel that with the glitchiness that comes through loud and clear throughout this song, but what I got hooked on was the nostalgic pop-punk world that MNERVA creates with this song, remix or no remix. I reviewed the original version of this song when it initially came out, and I feel like the words I said then still reign supreme when it comes to this remix, but it’s all turned up to eleven. The poppiness is just a bit more bouncy. The infectious energy is just a bit more ear-wormy, and the angst comes through ever so slightly more pointed. Long story short, MNERVA has taken one of their flawless pop-punk anthems and made it even more perfect through this remix.
