As suspected, today has been hell. No other way to put it. I can’t get caught up on everything I missed while on vacation over the weekend, and I’m feeling a bit defeated and overwhelmed, but at the same time, I’m feeling relaxed. I don’t know how on earth that is possible, but why question a good thing? Instead of getting stressed and pissed at the fact that I’m drowning in work, I’m choosing to just keep my head down and truck through it all calmly and patiently, and somehow, it’s working. It’s working enough that, although I definitely have a full day ahead of me without any breaks in sight, I want to take a little pause and check out some new music to share with you.

“Algebra (I’m on a Rage)” from Ruled By Raptors was first recorded in 2023. After putting it on the back burner for a few years, the band picked up work on the album this song is from and wrapped it up recently. Honestly, I’m glad for the delay because this song feels like it’s coming out at the perfect time. It’s a track about gaslighting and the frustration that comes with dealing with someone who tends to gaslight. It’s angsty and full of rage, but it also has sweet, relatable melodies scattered throughout the power. It’s a little Hot Mulligan-esque, with a bit more of a Jeff Rosenstock-kind of DIY ethos behind it. It’s polished, but not polished to the point where you miss out on the perfect amount of grit and fire that Ruled By Raptors brings to the table. This song will make you feel hidden rage rise from below while also giving you the tools to soothe it in a remarkable way.
