We’ve all survived things that maybe we shouldn’t have. It could be super obvious or maybe a bit more hidden in our brains, but I think we all deal with a small amount of survivor’s guilt, and it’s not talked about enough. Rob Beggs is talking about it, and his new song “Sermon In The Silence” is a powerful and cathartic song that we all need to not just hear, but feel.

Sonically, this song starts off light and fluffy with a little Frank Turner kind of singer-songwriter edge to it, but if you pay attention to the lyrics, you feel the picture that Rob is painting with this song, and it’s definitely less than light and fluffy. It’s a heavy message put to an upbeat and infectious punk-styled track. If you know me, you know this is a theme I absolutely love. I like to be sad. Okay, that sounds wrong. I mean that I can be a super sensitive person, but I hate letting people in on that, so I like music that masks sadness and existential dread with infectious hooks and boppy little verses. That’s what Rob does here, but by the end you realize the message can’t be contained in this rainbows-and-sunshine-style song, and you hear the grit and raw passion Rob brings to the table. Long story short, dance along to the fun or let your mind wander into the darkness. Either way, Rob Beggs is by your side and, trust me, it doesn’t get much better than that.
