Things are popping off in the music world. I feel like everyone is putting out the best music they have ever put out and tours are being announced left and right. The Very Reverend is no exception to this and his new single “HOLYGHOST” is an amazing track. It’s dark and moody yet so very infectious. It’s just the perfect balance of so many great vibes, moods and genres that it’s impossible to not fall in love. Intrigued and in love with this new single, I decided to ask The Very Reverend some questions about everything except music. Check it out here and make sure to check out his new single!

Everyone says that every crowd is their favorite but, what city has the best audience and why is it Minneapolis?

I’ve never been to Minneapolis but it’s on my list for sure. I wanna tour everywhere. Out of the places I HAVE been tho? Canadian audiences are amazing.

What’s a new hobby you have taken up during quarantine? If no hobby, is there a random TV show that you binged/ have a very strong opinion on?

Definitely no new hobbies, cuz I was lucky enough to spend all of quarantine locked away in a studio working on these new songs and didn’t have much of a life outside that, BUT, my escape from everything is always TV and movies. I binged all of Twin Peaks and now I’m on another rewatch of The Sopranos. Strong feelings about both, and about film and TV in general. Honestly, they really influence my music and the visuals I create along with it.

What’s your go-to coffee order?

Black cold brew, or an iced Americano with four long shots. Anything black really. I’ve actually experienced this weird thing across America whenever I happen to be ordering fast-food coffee, like at McDonald’s or Taco Bell, I’ll order black coffee and they stare at me like it’s something I made up and then give me a coffee with cream and sugar anyway.

What’s your favorite menu item at Taco Bell?

Taco Bell is everything to me. The only reason I’d ever get married is to use their wedding catering service. I stay loyal even though they play headgames with the potatoes and nacho fries. If you’re making me pick, it’s probably the Fiesta Potato breakfast burrito for me.

What’s your go to pick-up line or a pick-up line that has worked for you?

“When we’re together darling, every night is Halloween.” Never tried it, but it worked for Gomez Addams.

Are you okay with unconventional interview questions? (too late!)

The less conventional the better (like Taco Bell weddings).

How many CDs do you own?

Somewhere buried in my parent’s house there’s like, a giant fucking binder and all these boxes full of all my self-burned mix CD’s and every CD I ever bought. I couldn’t give you a number. A hundred? These days I have my favorites on vinyl and listen to everything else on Spotify.

Did Matt Skiba help or hurt Blink 182? Or, if you have no opinion, that’s fine too (although I’ll absolutely be judging you)!

Don’t hate me, but my favorite thing to come out of Blink is Tom DeLonge crusading for us all to know the truth about aliens. That said I feel like it’s his voice I wanna hear when I listen to them, so I can’t say I’m a Matt Skiba stan. If it’s not saying “yead” I don’t want it. I’m gonna say hurt.

If you could compare yourself to a bird, what bird would it be and why?

A raven. I feel the most myself in all black and I love to collect precious objects and shiny things. Or maybe one of those penguins with the white streaks down the sides of its head because we have the same taste in hair aesthetics.

What was the last concert you attended?

I saw some great local shows right before lockdown, but my last big one was Ozzy. Fucking wild show.

What were you voted in high school?

Biggest flirt.

Favorite lyrics of all time? (it can be a full song, a phrase, etc. just please let me know who it is and what song!)

It really depends on mood and so many things, but ‘Magneto’ by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds is haunting and devastating. I’m also a huge fan of Matt Healy’s lyrics.

If you were to rob a bank, what would be the song playing in the getaway car as you escape?

“Skulls” – Misfits

What’s one thing I should know before listening to “HOLYGHOST”

I call it “a song for imperfect creatures” cuz it’s kind of a callout of the ways we build up these inner demons by pretending to be someone we’re not, usually to please other people; be imperfect, be your raw self, your own god, your own judge – like the wise prophet Miley said, “forget the haters, cuz somebody loves ya.”

I’m not surprised in the least that The Very Reverend was voted “biggest flirt” in high school because he was clearly just trying to win me over with the mention of a Taco Bell wedding (and, spoiler alert, it worked). If you aren’t as easily won over by The Very Reverend’s love for Taco Bell as I am, checking out his new single is sure to do the trick. “HOLYGHOST” is his second single of the year and there are many more to come so make sure you follow his socials so you don’t miss the next amazing track!
