I was in love the first time I heard “Holding On To Nothing” by 4 Minutes Later. It’s infectious, it’s fun, it’s energetic– basically it was everything that I needed and I just had to know more about this “Alien-Pop” band (and, yes, that’s a thing).
What’s a new hobby you have taken up during quarantine? If no hobby, is there a random TV show that you binged/ have a very strong opinion on?
No new hobbies! I just really tried to focus on myself and improve as a musician and songwriter. I did however make time to finally watch Game of Thrones… Talk about ruining a whole series with the finale. – Moon
For myself it’s not a new hobby, just one I’ve really dedicated a lot of time to and that’s being outdoors and exploring/hiking. I am so lucky to have so many amazing trails around me to explore. – JUNYOR
What’s your go-to coffee order?
It’s actually the same for both of us. Black. It’s how you truly taste the different nuances in flavors and beans. Adding anything else just masks the true essence! – Moon
I love myself a good vanilla flavor but usually just stick to black. – JUNYOR
If you could compare yourself to an animal, what would it be and why?
I would say a butterfly. How they transform from a caterpillar into something beautiful is something to behold. Starting off anonymous kind of felt like that – I imagine anyways- a caterpillar going into a cocoon and now that we have emerged as a butterfly we are ready to show off our colours. – Moon
Wolf- I am a fighter for what I believe in and am very loyal as long as you are deserving of it. I will go toward for the ones I love and war with the ones who bring pain. -JUNYOR
What’s an old-school fad that you wish would come back (i.e. jnco jeans; butterfly clips; etc.)
I feel like a lot of old-school fads are making a comeback now. If I had to choose one, perhaps the fanny pack. Underrated style and also quite useful! – Moon
Hit Clips… Not sure if everyone remembers them but being able to have a keychain with your favorite songs and trade with your friends was so fun! – JUNYOR
Favorite method of listening to music (i.e. vinyl, cassette, 8-track, etc.)
I am an avid vinyl collector and love the experience of vinyl from the shopping to holding it in your hands and looking at the artwork to sitting back in a dim room and just listening and connecting. I do however love what Spotify has done for music portability and discovery. I find a LOT of new artists that way. – JUNYOR
Are you okay with unconventional interview questions? (too late!)
We prefer them! – 4ML
What’s the most awkward date you’ve ever been on?
I went on a date that was already going poorly when it was time to get dinner. We decided to share a flatbread pizza and there were 2 options: one had mushrooms and one didn’t. To say mushrooms are my least favorite item on this earth is an understatement, so when I asked them if they liked mushrooms and they responded “what kind of a loser wouldn’t like mushrooms” naturally I stood up for myself and declared I didn’t right!? Wrong. We ordered the mushroom pizza on the patio and when they weren’t looking I would pick them off and throw them under the table… This was great until it was time to leave and stood up, stepped in the mountain of mushrooms, and went head over ass just like in the cartoons. The good thing about this is it has taught me to always be honest about who you are – JUNYOR
You guys are an “Alien-Pop” band– why alien pop– why not Bigfoot pop?
Because we are out of this world! … One of the definitions for the word alien is “too different from something to be acceptable or suitable.” And one of our least favorite questions we get asked is “What kind of music do you make?” – well it’s kinda pop, kinda rock, kinda synth – like I don’t know, just listen and categorize us as you please, but we aren’t going to try and fit into a certain genre or structure. We will continue to make music that we like – whatever that is. And that’s the true meaning of Alien-Pop. – Moon
But really, how obsessed are you with aliens, and do you believe what Tom DeLonge says?
There are aliens living among us currently – who’s to say we are not aliens … – Moon
I think that if we believe we are the only life form out there it is pretty ignorant. In what form or when will we know… that’s to be debated but we are not alone! – JUNYOR
Favorite lyrics of all time? (it can be a full song, a phrase, etc. just please let me know who it is and what song!)
Honestly, I’m probably overlooking some songs but this is the top 3 for sure! I find the best all-time lyrics come from truth and reflection.
“Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see. It’s getting hard to be someone but it all works out. It doesn’t matter much to me” The Beatles – Strawberry Fields Forever
– Moon
I really couldn’t pick just one lyric for me. I dive too deep into music so I would have to pick categories of musical context to pick a favorite from each so I could go deep and say favorite love song lyric favorite sad lyric favorite deep meaning lyric new vs old etc. But to pick just one that is up there and comes to mind would be Maybe I’m Amazed – Paul McCartney
Baby, I’m amazed at the way you love me all the time
And maybe I’m afraid of the way I love you
Maybe I’m amazed at the way you pulled me out of time
You hung me on the line
Maybe I’m amazed at the way I really need you
Baby, I’m a man, maybe I’m a lonely man
Who’s in the middle of something
That he doesn’t really understand
Baby, I’m a man
And maybe you’re the only woman who could ever help me
Baby, won’t you help me to understand?
– JUNYOR
If you were to rob a bank, what would be the song playing in the getaway car as you escape?
Well since ‘Baby Driver’ is one of my favorite all-time movies and features a storyline based on this question, I’m going to have to steal one of theirs because I cannot think of anything better since. Bellbottoms by The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. – Moon
Mine would be Run to the Hills – Iron Maiden – JUNYOR
What’s the worst concert you’ve ever been to and why?
For me, Counting Crows. A friend and I received free tickets to see Live open up for Counting Crows in Houston. Live was great. Counting Crows – a little bit boring in their older age and they didn’t even play Mr. Jones – And that’s why I’m naming them as my worst concert. – Moon
Sadly I don’t remember what my first one was because I was lucky enough to start going at a very young age. I’ve been to so many they all kind of blur together. But one of my first memories of live music has to be Glass Tiger. – JUNYOR
If you were to meet an alien, what is the first thing you would ask them?
If we were able to communicate in the same language my first question would be how long do we heal this earth? I feel like if they are getting here they would be scientifically far more advanced and would be able to help us solve problems like climate change – JUNYOR
What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?
I’ve been lucky enough to witness a lot of great shows from arenas to clubs. The Pretty Reckless, Kaleo, 5SOS, KISS, The Tragically Hip, Alice Cooper… I can go on – all fantastic. But I will give the edge to this show’s lineup – Classified, Lights, The Arkells. Plus it was my first-time crowd surfing! – Moon
I Have also been to some pretty amazing shows and always love the classics like Aerosmith/ Alice cooper but couldn’t pick just one favorite overall show. But one of my favorite concert experiences was seeing Ed Sheeran on his + tour. It was an outdoor show for about 2500 people and he dropped the mic, made everyone sit down, be quiet, and sang acapella. It was so quiet you could hear the planes flying over. This to me was just so intimate and made you feel like the only person there. -JUNYOR
What’s one thing I should know before listening to “Holding on to Nothing”?
Turn it up loud! That’s it – no prerequisite required! – Moon
Right now this is just a single but can we expect a full album or EP soon?
Absolutely! We just got back from the studio finishing recording some new tunes and still have one more song lined up to record! We are trying to decide if we want to release a full album or do two separate EP’s for early next year! – Moon
As if I wasn’t already excited about “Holding On To Nothing”, to hear that the band just got back from the studio has me beyond thrilled. 4 Minutes Later has a unique sound and they have a great sense of humor. Basically– they have the makings of an amazing band that is surely going to make it big sooner rather than later and I am so honored they took the time to answer my questions.
