I honestly don’t know what’s going on in Ireland or what’s in the water but, after checking out HVVK’s track “Expiry”, I want some of it.
This song is a bit unassuming at first. Punky vocals come with an almost chill background instrumentation creating an almost dissonance at the beginning of “Expiry” but it doesn’t take long for the angst of HAVVK to take over and jet this song off to another planet. There’s something super abrasive about everything in this track but it’s also ridiculously accessible. There’s a sense of delicacy and grace hidden behind the angst and aggression of the vocals here. I’m not sure how lead singer Julie Hough did it but it’s definitely something to listen for. I’m sure that when listening to this song, you will come up with a million different acts that HVVK reminds you of but none of those comparisons will do this band or this single justice so I’m going to let you decide who you think this sounds like.
