I’m not sure what it means for a song to be an “Anthem Edition” but, whatever it is, Cherub Tree nailed it with their “not yours, never was (Anthem Edition)”.
There’s something super eclectic about this song. The style changes from indie-rock to Riot Grrrl in the blink of an eye throughout this track. Overall, this song has an attitude about it that is super infectious and perfect. More perfect than the actual sound of this track is the message behind not only this song, but Cherub Tree in general. This song is truly what the band had aimed for– the new voice of a revolution. The lyrics of this song serve as a reminder that we, the people, are not just toys for the government and, with how wild things have been lately and continue to be, it’s super important to remember that.
“not yours, never was (Anthem Edition)” has a DIY vibe to it which is a signature move of Cherub Tree so, if you like this and love deep lyrics with a sense of sass and attitude when it comes to the delivery of them, make sure to check out this song and other amazing tracks from this Washington D.C. based act.
