Girl at the Rock Shows

I’m trucking away today and was feeling like I was getting so much done and had so much time to get so much more done. Then I looked at the clock. It’s already almost lunch which means my “free time” to work is dwindling and I’m just hours away from getting into show mode for the concert tonight. It was one of those heartbreaking realizations and, most days, it would be enough to make me just give up for the day (anxiety is the worst) but not today. Today is the day I push through that small panic attack about there not being enough time to get everything done in a day and, instead, continue on unphased by the time passing by with the help of “Them Phones” from pulses. feat. JER.

When this song hits, it hits hard and perfectly. A solid blend of ska and post-hardcore, “Them Phones” places pulses. directly onto my map and into my heart. Although the song kicks off with a seemingly harmless ska intro, when the vocals come into play, the song jets off to something you won’t believe. The post-hardcore sound is strong and distinct but the way the track bounces between that heaviness and the light-hearted fun of the ska horns is absolutely genius and unlike anything else I’ve ever heard. On top of the genre-bending is just the overall power behind every night. Don’t get me wrong, this is not 100% in your face and the band takes there time with certain parts while giving other moments a little extra push of angst but, in general, this song has one of those vibes that will beckon you to get up and move a little bit so what are you waiting for?
