I promise to not start every post today with my ode to leaving early but here I am with all fingers and toes crossed that I can skip out of the day job a bit early to get some stuff done at home before my show tonight (and by get some stuff done, I definitely mean take a nap). So let’s just stop wasting time and dig into my next single pick for the day- “Sick Hominid” from Viruette.
“Sick Hominid” is the lead single from Viruette’s debut EP ‘Waylaid in Aspic’ and if this track doesn’t get you intrigued on hooked on this band, I don’t know what will. There’s a very eerie vibe to this track that bridges onto the side of creepy in all of the right ways. There’s just this sense of “hidden in the shadows” when it comes to the vocals but I really can’t go more in detail with what I mean by that. I truly think you’ll understand when you take a listen to this amazing four-minute long song. Amid that almost eeir vibe is an undeniable sense of angst and energy that comes through loud and clear throughout this song. Although it’s not always in your face and obvious, there’s no denying the amount of power that comes through this song so perfectly. Although “Sick Hominid” definitely does a great job of laying out Viruette’s distinct sound, it also leaves you with a lot of questions and ready to jump into the entire ‘Waylaid in Aspic’ EP (which is out now on streaming platforms!).
