One of my top sets of 2022 came from Canadian band The OBGMs so when their name came across my desk as a guest band on The Effens’ track “Someone’s Gonna Get You”, my heart fluttered a bit. I knew that I was going to get flawless energy and style from The OBGMs solely based on the power they gave me at their live show and anyone who teams up with this band is surely worth my attention. I was right.
The Effens are also from Canada and I don’t know what they’re putting in the water up there but I’ll take ten. This song wastes no time laying out The Effens’ classic rock n’ roll energy. It’s a little grunge, a little glam, a little 90s rock, a little everything creating a sound that can only be described as The Effens. To say that “Someone’s Gonna Get You” would be an understatement. The chorus will ring throughout your head for the rest of the day (I’m not sorry about that) but that’s the way a chorus should be– catchy. What is so amazing about this track is the fact that the entire song is just as infectious as that chorus. All in all, this song is just a flawless ball of power and energy which is something I know we could all use a little of on a Monday.
