Seeing local bands come across my email is always my favorite thing. It makes it even better when those bands are absolutely amazing and that’s the case when it comes to Atomic Lights. Don’t believe me? Just check out their new song “I’m Okay”.
Although just released last month, “I’m Okay” is a track that has been ten years in the making. The skeleton of the track was written when the band was just teenagers and could, self-admittedly, barely play their instruments. Honestly, listening to this two and a half minute track, you would never know that. “I’m Okay” comes with such a sense of tailored perfection and talent that, although you know there was time spent in this track, it feels like Atomic Lights is just that good of a band. I still think this is true even though it took them so long to make this track. There’s something organic and freeing about the emotion and angst that comes through this standard punk-styled track that just can not come with time– it comes with passion. The song is anthemic and powerful with a classic Midwest punk vibe. If you like controlled chaos and bands like Jawbreaker and Dillinger Four, this is a track for you!
