My day is starting to get back on track but I can feel the stress of the morning still lingering in my head and I need to clear that out of my mind. The best way I know how to do that is to get distracted by a new song and “Enemy” from Cross Dog is just that track for me right now but that’s no surprise. I fell in love with this band the second I heard their track “Hard Feelings” and that love has just grown with every song I hear from them.

“Enemy” is full of Cross Dog’s perfect blend of chaos and control. It’s part noise, part hardcore punk, and all attitude. My personal favorite part of this band, beyond the chaos that they seem to bring to every song, is the vocals. They are so brash, so almost bratty in a way, but in a good way. Although this song may feel a bit intimidating and even a bit aggressive, I love the message behind it. It’s a track that vocalist Tracy A says was, written during a dark period, but as someone who is always irritatingly optimistic (evidently, even in the throes of depression), I am forever reminding myself that things will get better.” We all have those days when we are a bit down in the dumps and those ruts of depression that we don’t think we’ll ever get out of but this song reminds you that, in the end, there is a light and sometimes thinking about how you are alive is the tiny little spark that you need to get out of your own dark space.
