Girl at the Rock Shows

It’s been a hot minute since I shared a song from SAME PAINS (check out this review of their track “palebodypaleheart”) so I figured now is the perfect time to remind you that this band deserves your attention. Nay, scratch that. This band DEMANDS your attention.

Much like “palebodypaleheart”, “nausea OD” instantly hits you with an undeniable sense of brutal energy. This three minute and eleven song is heavy and intense but there’s such a sense of beauty and constraint in it. Okay, maybe it takes a trained ear to hear the constraint that SAME PAINS has in this song but, once you hear it, you can’t unhear. The way this band tows the line between intensity and sheer emotional beauty is something that will consistently keep me coming back for more from this band. On top of that is the message behind this song. Don’t worry if you don’t understand the words, all you need to know is that this song is “a brutal depiction of the horrors that come with body dysmorphia and those that struggle with mental illness”. Whether you catch the words that convey this message or not, you can feel the message throughout the intensity of this track and that just adds to the magic that is “nausea OD”.
