Girl at the Rock Shows

I had a late start this morning due to an appointment. Because of this, my day has felt just slightly “off”. It’s not a bad thing but more I just feel like it’s been hard to settle into the day due to the small hiccup. Being a creature of habit is weird and it’s something I’m trying to work on but it’s been rough today. Long story short, maybe checking out some new music will snap me back into place so let’s kick off the day with “Van” from Flying Whammy.

Flying Whammy says that “Van” is, “Simple Emo style stuff” and, honestly, that’s the perfect way to describe this song but, also, doesn’t quite to Flying Whammy’s sound justice. This pop-punk band from the PDX area definitely has strong roots in the emo and pop-punk scene of years gone by but there’s something fresh about their take on this timeless sound. “Van” is quick paced and punchy but definitely has that emo leaning tendency of making you feel everything and nothing at the same time. The layers throughout this song are expertly placed and level to create a perfect wall of sound that, if you’re a pop-punk and emo kid that refuses to grow up like me, will leave you wanting so much more from this band.
