I slept through all of my alarms this morning so it was a mad dash out the door and, honesty, I fear it set the tone for my day. I’m stressed, a bit manic, and oh so very sleepy. On top of that, I had to write a particularly bad review of one of the shows I went to last night because, well, it was a particularly bad show. I’m ready to leave the day job, go home and take a little nap to re-set for the day and then get some more work done tonight but I still have hours before that happens so I need a little pick-me-up.
The power that comes with “(for) Friede” from Watch Me Rise is just what the doctor ordered. This powerful song is a deep one with an undeniable sense of pain that comes through the lyrics and presentation of them. I could sit here and tell you how this song is about loss and the pain that comes with losing a loved one but I’m pretty sure you could have figured that out just by listening to the song. Stylistically, this song is very post hardcore with a hint of emo behind it. It reminds me a bit of things like Being As An Ocean and La Dispute but there’s almost something a bit more desperate and dramatic about this track. Although I can’t relate to the lyrics of this track right now, I can relate to the angst and aggression which both hit me so perfectly on this sleepy Monday morning.
