Girl at the Rock Shows

It’s cold. Like colder than cold. That mixed with the fact that I may have had one too many drinks last night while watching the Minnesota Vikings completely blow it (unsurprisingly) means this morning has been a bit rough. It’s been hard to get the motor going but I’m at work, I’m almost caught up on email, and am now trying to get the right headspace to tackle my to-do list. This is where “Sad Joints” from Water Culture comes in.

“Sad Joints” instantly hit me with a sense of energy and angst that I so badly needed to get my head in the game. “Sad Joints” is about “the moment of realization that things could and should be better in your relationship, and that extending to your life overall.” I agree that there are always things that we can all work on in all of our relationships but that’s not where my head is at right now. That being said, this track from North Carolina’s Water Culture hit me like a ton of bricks with the waves of emotion that come with it. I love how there are moments of sheer desperation and intensity followed by moments of tenderness and almost assurance in a way. It’s a gorgeous rollercoaster ride of extremes highlighted by the sheer amount of talent and creativity that Water Culture puts in the spotlight in this track. Call is post-rock-emo, call it post-rock with emo tendencies, call it what you want, “Sad Joints” from Water Culture is a super powerful song that is absolutely worth your attention this morning.
