I have been wanting to catch local Minneapolis rockers Night of Joy live for some time. Sadly, my calendar just never seems to sync up with theirs. There’s always something else and someone always gets to me before Night of Joy does. Although I love being in demand and love the fact that I live in a city where there are multiple shows happening any given night, I hate the fact that I haven’t been able to praise Night Of Joy’s talent on this blog so I figured not is as good of a time as any to introduce you to this amazing local band by sharing their new single “Just A Number”.
“Just A Number” is a single off of Night of Joy’s EP ‘King Baby’ which will be out later this week (so make sure to check it out). It’s a fun song that that’s not too fast, not too slow, not to harsh, not to tender– it’s truly just perfect. Sonically, Night of Joy definitely fits into the alternative rock vein of things which is highlighted in this track but you can also hear little snippets of a more grunge influence and, at times, even a punk leaning vibe. All of these things come together in “Just A Number” to create a song that is as powerful as it is memorable. I wouldn’t call any particular part of this song “catchy” yet something about this song gets stuck in your head. I’m not sure how else to describe it but, surely, after just one listen to “Just A Number” from Night of Joy, it will make sense.
