I love songs that remind you to stay grounded. It could be a soft reggae bop or a more intense PMA hardcore track. If a song makes me remember where I come from and how far I’ve come at the same time, it’s a song for me. This is the first thing that caught me when it comes to “Roots” from Carry the 9, but it’s not the only thing.
“Roots” is a straight up skate punk song. It has a very Fat Wreck Chords style to it but a sound that can only be described as Carry the 9. This fast and furious song is about roots and how they keep us grounded but is also about how you can pick those roots up and carry them to wherever you want to be. I think this is such a beautiful message and love how this song is presented with the perfect amount of angst to really drive the message home. Although just over three minutes long, this song is fast and furious so it’s over in what seems to be a blink of an eye. This song left me wanting so much more from this amazing band but, with only four singles out there, there’s not much to dig into. That being said, I look forward to seeing what’s next for this explosive punk band.
