It’s not even lunchtime, and I can feel myself already struggling to stay awake. It’s not lack of sleep today because, honestly, I slept more last night than I have in weeks, but I fear that it has backfired on me, and now I seem to have overslept, leaving me more tired than before. It’s a vicious circle, isn’t it? No matter what I do- stay up late or go to bed early- I still wake up tired and struggling to make it through the day. This has nothing to with “Darkfields” by In Covert, but I will say that the power behind this song was just what I needed right now.
“Darkfields” wastes no time turning into an assault on your ears within the first few seconds of this quick track. It’s intense, it’s noisy and loud, and it’s perfect. The very beginning of this track has an almost noise-experimental leaning vibe to it, but as the vocals come in, you get something leaning a bit more into the world of bands like IDLES. I love the severity that comes with this track. It’s oddly threatening but not in a super scary way. I hate to put In Covert into just one box as this song dazzles with many different elements, but really, listening to this song gave me the same feeling I got the first time I saw IDLES live. Quick frankly, it scared the shit out of me but, at the same, filled me with such a perfect amount of energy that it was hard to not just let this track play on repeat as I continue with my day because of the rush it gave me every time.
