Girl at the Rock Shows

I don’t recall ever being in a “resort town.” Honestly, my family was just too quirky for that growing up and, now that I’m older, I just have no real desire to spend a lot of time in a resort town. I prefer small-town America kind of towns that are a bit off the beaten path and seem to be slightly lost in time. What does this have to do with houseguest’s new song “resort towns”? Absolutely nothing other than that’s where my head went when this song came across my desk.

“resort towns” is definitely a bit more chill than I tend to go for, and it leans into the more chill side of this Canadian band but don’t let that stop you from checking out this song. It’s deep and heavy in all of the right ways. The emo and punk elements that are placed together like patchwork with a garage-rock sounding cement to keep it all together create a super dynamic listen that is as familiar as it is unique. On top of all of those aforementioned elements, there’s a definite Modern Baseball leaning sense of shoegaziness that casts a beautiful haze around everything else. Whether you need to calm down a little bit by spending some time just breathing and thinking about beautiful things, or you enjoy chill things, “resort towns” from houseguest will be your new favorite addiction.
