Today is flying by and, although I’m getting a lot done, it’s not enough– it’s never enough. That being said, I’m ready for a little break and some new music so, this mid-morning break is brought to you by the lovely and talented Gabe Woodrow.

I don’t know why but something about the title of this song, “The Annexation of Puerto Rico,” had me thinking that this would be a bit of a folk song. It is not. In fact, it’s a pop punk and emo leaning heart-melting kind of song that will win your soul over almost instantly. Pro Motocross racer turned musician, Gabe Woodrow has one of those voices that can make even the most stone-like heart turn to mush. It’s smooth and soft but hits you with a sense of raw power that makes it impossible to not relate to in some way or another. Clearly taking nods from emo acts of years gone by like The Early November and Senses Fail but adding a super subtle yet unique slight country flare to the songs, Gabe Woodrow is one of those acts that I absolutely have my eyes on because I expect so much more from this act that finds themselves “somewhere between Emo and Appalachia.”
