I’m starting to get a headache. It’s not that today has been bad or even overly stressful but it’s just another one of those days where my fingers can only type so fast and, even though that’s definitely quicker than the average person, it’s not quick enough. Every time I get an email out, I have four more lined up. I’m drowning and trying my best to keep gasping for air when I can but I feel like I’m running out of time so, before I plunge myself back into the darkness that is my email, let’s check out a new track from Bug Facer.
Bug Facer is a doomy drone-like experimental band from across the ocean and man, they do they have a sound that will catch your attention instantly. There’s so much power behind this. Although I understand why this band refers to itself as “doomy”, I feel that’s a bit misleading. Sure, “Sweet Pea” is dark and gloomy, but I don’t know that I would really put this song into the doom category. The category I would put it is in wholly unique and creative. There’s an almost furious sense of panic in this, yet at no point did I feel like the beat reached warped speed or anything like that. It’s more the presentation of all of the layers that make up this band in a song that is about living in a world where, in order to survive, you have to conform in a way. The cacophony of this song will remind me that sometimes it’s okay not to conform. It’s okay to sometimes have a breakdown and sometimes let your rage shine through because, at the end of the day, that’s what makes you human. I know it’s quite an emo saying to pair with such a non-emo and intense song, but “Sweet Pea” from Bug Facer was the perfect reminder that it’s okay to not be okay, and it’s exactly what I needed before I plunge back into a hectic afternoon of work.
