When Owen Coleman pitched me the song “Heaven’s Jealous,” he mentioned that the song had been compared to everyone from Oasis/ The Beatles to Fall Out Boy/ Panic at the Disco. That’s a wide range of sounds, and it had me intrigued, but at the same time, it had me treading carefully. I mean, honestly, comparing a sound to that wide of a range of influences is a bit of a flex, and I wondered if that’s all it was, and, really, this song was all hype with nothing to back it up.

My careful treading was done after just a couple of seconds in this song. Although the influences mentioned in the pitch to me spanned generations and styles, I couldn’t think of a better way to describe Owen Coleman’s sound. It has a classic hint of vintage rock behind it, giving you that more Beatles feel to it, but there’s definitely a drama to some of the vocals that gives it a Panic at the Disco feel. Then you have the anthemic energy and power that comes with every Oasis song, mixed with the infectious pop-punk energy of anything Fall Out Boy does. It sounds crazy, but Oasis meets The Beatles meets Fall Out Boy meets Panic at the Disco may be the only adequate way to describe “Heaven’s Jealous.” It doesn’t matter what influences you pick up on throughout this song; chances are, you will fall in love with it because, at the end of the day, Owen has such a polished yet honest sound behind him that is absolutely irresistible.
