It has been far too long since I caught Slow Joy live. I can still feel that concert and Slow Joy’s set in particular. It was full of heart, passion, but over all of that, this sense of tenderness made me feel like it was just me and Slow Joy in that sold-out venue. It was intimate and raw. Comfortable but dared me to question my own deepest and darkest thoughts. It was a weird feeling, but one that, again, I can still feel in my bones, and hearing Slow Joy’s new song “Wound” seemed to, well, open up that wound again in all of the right ways.
“Wound” is a gorgeous, albeit painful, but also powerful reminder that grief takes time and that it looks different on everyone. In true Slow Joy fashion, this song made me feel everything I didn’t think I could feel on my lunch break on a Wednesday morning. Although it was almost overwhelming at times, Slow Joy’s smooth and comforting tone held me up as I had a slight existential crisis during this three-minute and twelve-second song. That doesn’t sound like a good thing, I know, but, truly, “Wound” is gorgeous. Although the track clearly got me lost in my own feelings, I could see how, on a different day where my head is in a different spot, this could be a powerful pick-me-up kind of anthem. Slow Joy is an act that means so much to so many people, yet they seem to be flying under the radar when it comes to the masses. Let’s change that. Check out “Wound” and be sure to check out Slow Joy’s debut album (where this single came from), ‘A Joy so Slow At Times I Don’t Think It’s Coming.’
