I’m coming to terms with the fact that it is going to take more than just one day to get caught up after my insane weekend so, instead of freaking out about it, I’m taking my time and keeping calm while finding little things throughout the day that make me happy. One of those little things is “Doppelganger” by YACOVELLI.
The second single from this NYC-based band, “Doppelganger,” instantly had me intrigued. Their sound is so all over the place from a gutterpunk and 80s hair metal influence to a more restrained indie rock swagger, I love how this song kept me on my toes and kept YACOVELLI’s self-described “Nu York” sound at the forefront. Just when you think you have this song and YACOVELLI pegged into a certain genre, the band bucks and twists, morphing into a completely different sound and style within just seconds. One thing that remains constant throughout this nearly four-minute-long song is the power and integrity that comes through. There’s something about this song that will light a fire in your soul and remind you that you aren’t just on this planet to work, pay taxes, and die; you are here to create art and enjoy art, so why not take a break from your daily grind and do just that?
