I was hooked by Shrive the first time I saw them in February at Zhora Darling. Their sound and performance was powerful and intense. It was a noise-leaning set that left me stunned and intrigued so I was stoked when their name came across my email with a new track.

“Comfortable Haze” is one of the songs off of Shrive’s debut EP. Much like what I remember from their performance that fateful day in February, this song is intense. I love the way that Shrive seems to play with anticipation and patience while blasting you right in the gut with a sense of heaviness that can not be ignored. The ebb and flow of this track doesn’t follow traditional rules but that just adds to the intrigued that this song (and Shrive in general) will leave you with. At just over six minutes long, “Comfortable Haze” definitely falls into the “epic” category for me and, although I typically have a short attention span, this Minneapolis noise rock band had me buckled in for the entirety of this ride. It’s been a few months since I’ve seen Shrive but, after hearing this song and checking out the EP as a whole, I know that I will have to catch them live again soon.
