Something is off today, and I can’t put my finger on it. I feel like I’m in a bit of a haze. Maybe it’s a headache, or maybe it’s just brain fog, but something has me feeling just slightly off and like I’m sleepwalking in a way. We all have days like this, right? Or am I going crazy? If I am going crazy, at least I’m going crazy with Jake Cassman because his song “Thanks For Waking Me Up” is about this feeling.

“Thanks For Waking Me Up” is off of Jake’s upcoming album ‘Idling High’ and is about “sleepwalking through your week — until a beautiful woman comes to the rescue.” Although I’m not holding out hope that a beautiful woman will come to the rescue for me today, I love that this song woke me up as it were. From iconic and pounding piano notes to Jake’s perfectly polished yet rough-around-the-edges vocals, I could feel life being breathed into me with every passing beat of this infectious rhythm. Stylistically, this song reminds me a bit of Low Cut Connie, with the old soul of Bleachers, but let’s be honest, that could just be because of the prominent piano and the more aged, vintage feel surrounding this song. Whatever it is, I love this song and can’t wait to dive deeper into Jake Cassman’s discography because I’m sure it will leave me feeling a bit more awake than I feel right now.
