Minus The Bear doesn’t need my press. They are an iconic band with a cult like following and a band that I have been obsessed with for literal decades. So why am I sharing out their “Hooray (Demo)” track with you today? Well, sometimes a song is just too good not to share, and that’s the case here. Whether you’ve been a fan of this fantastic band since day one or if this is your first time hearing their name and music, you should spend some time with this revisited song.

“Hooray” is the eighth track off of Minus The Bear’s seminal sophomore release ‘Menos El Oso’, which came out in 2005. It’s a song I know well from an album I feel like I know like the back of my hand, yet something about this “Demo” version had me stuck. Minus The Bear has always had a very vulnerable and raw quality to their sound, which is one of the many reasons I really like the band, but there’s something extra raw about this recording. There are intricacies that come through in this song that I feel like you don’t feel in the final version that made the album, and, because of that, “Hooray (Demo)” seems to hit just a bit harder. Don’t get me wrong, this is still a well-polished track, as is everything that this band does, but there’s just that little extra grit behind it that helps show you the roots of this amazing band. Minus The Bear is going on tour later this year and will be stopping at First Avenue here in Minneapolis on November 18th. I’m counting down the days and can’t wait to hear “Hooray” and all of their other classic tracks at that show.
