Even on the good days, I feel like we all need a reminder to just hang in there. Life can be going great but all it takes is one little slip to make thing rough and point us all at a low point. Thankfully, you’ll have “Cal ’72” from City at Dawn to help you out the next time that happens.
“Cal ’72” was written as a message to Jamie’s (of City of Dawn) brother while said brother was going through hell and then some. I won’t go into all of the details but, truly, the message behind this song is heavy but what City at Dawn has done with it is brilliant. This is a bright and poppy song definitely situated in the early 2000s vein of pop-punk. Although the words are absolutely serious and so heartfelt, the infectious energy of the track behind said words keeps this song from feeling as heavy as the message. The message is simple– “this is where it gets better”. I love how this song reminds you that, even in the darkest of days and the most desperate of events, things will get better because, as City at Dawn says, “we need it to”. If you need some suport right now or just need a song to brighten your mood, I highly suggest checking out “Cal ’72” from City at Dawn.
