Well, I was due for a bout of strep throat, I suppose. I’m the queen of strep and tend to get it every three to four months. I had gone closer to five months without it, but it hit me on Monday with a sense of power and fury that absolutely knocked me on my butt. I am still trying to get over it and am not sure how much long I’ll make it through today before I have to give in and just go back to sleep but, while I’m awake and somewhat conscious, we may as well check out some new music and Sandcaps’ “Laying In A Patch Of Grass In My Back Yard Forever and Ever…And Ever” is hitting the spot right now.

The second release from Sandcap, “Laying In A Patch Of Grass In My Back Yard Forever and Ever…And Ever” is a dreamy and lush yet intense and aggressive song that comes at you fast and hard. For me, this morning, I fell into the anger and aggression of this track. It comes with a sense of desperation and seems to relate to my desperation of not letting this bout of strep throat get the best of me, as I have so much to get done. That being said, had this song hit me on a different day, I could see myself getting stuck by the sheer beauty that comes through in the lush instrumentation that acts as a backdrop to the intense vocals. Everything about this song is a contrast and juxtaposition which, above everything else, makes “Laying In A Patch Of Grass In My Back Yard Forever and Ever…And Ever” one of those songs that makes you think and Sandcap one of those bands that you want to hear so much more from.
