Girl at the Rock Shows

I know I’ve already shared out a couple of songs from Sr. in the past and that I try not to play favorites or anything like that but, the second I heard “Down and Out,” the new single from Sr., I knew I would be a fool to not share it with you.

As the band had warned me when sending this track my way, “The intro really sets the tone for the rest of the track!” and that is so true. “Down and Out” kicks off with a subtle sense of insane power disguised in a beautiful tapestry of pop-punk goodness. Overall, this song is definitely a classic pop-punk kind of jam, but there’s something more to it. There’s a subtle sparkle that emerges here and there throughout this three-minute track, making it feel fresh. Sure, I got a Relient K kind of vibe from this song (minus the Church camp feeling). There was definitely a moment in this track where I randomly thought of Boys Like Girls —a band I hadn’t thought about much in years — but by the time this pop-punk-perfect bop was over, all I could think about was Sr. and how fresh their sound truly is. Not in the mood for just a pop-punk-bop? There’s depth here when you get into the lyrics that revolve around freeing yourself from a toxic relationship. Sr. does a great job of walking you through what this situation is like, from the self-blame all the way to the freedom. Long story short, there’s something for everyone in “Down and Out” from Sr. and it is absolutely a track worth your ears this morning.
