I am such an animal lover that even reading the band name The Dog’s Body evoked a strong emotion deep in my soul. I hated it, but something in my gut told me to look past the name and just focus on the song title, “Skeletons.” I’m sure glad I went with my gut because it would have been a shame to just fly over this single.

There’s pain in this song, but I love how The Dog’s Body transforms that pain into something beautiful, powerful, and cathartic. It’s a song about death, and it brings all the grit, emotion, frustration, sorrow, and other dramatic emotions to the forefront, pairing those emotions with something dazzling and glittery. Although this song was written as a means for someone to work through the feelings of grief, I feel that the track comes across as a bit of a redemption song. As mentioned, it’s powerful and has a hint of beauty lurking beneath the grit and rawness that comes through at first glance. The Dog’s Body claims that “Skeletons” is “the weird single” from their album. Even if that’s true, it absolutely intrigues me enough to want to spend the next couple of hours delving deeper into this Tennessee-based group.
