I know that my birthday is over but it was just yesterday and I am a Leo so, therefore, I will be celebrating my birthday for the foreseeable future. Okay, being a Leo has nothing to do with it, I’m just a brat but, regardless, celebrating my birthday for an extended period of time is perfect because it makes “Birthday Boy” from The Halfpipes hit that much harder.

This song was written by The Halfpipes on a day when everyone forgot one of the members’ birthdays. Thankfully, that was not the case for me as I was completely overwhelmed by the calls, comments, texts and even snail mail I got but the message behind this song isn’t what got me hooked. It’s the attitude and energy. A perfectly punchy surf-punk leaning track, this two and a half minute song is quick but is completely full of grit and angst. I love that you get not only this air of disappointment from the vocals throughout this song but you also get the bitter feeling that comes with a forgotten birthday. It’s a somewhat brash song and pretty tongue-in-cheek yet lays out the perfection that is the sound of The Halfpipes so perfectly. Whether it’s your birthday week or not, I highly suggest checking this track out and showing The Halfpipes some love so you don’t miss what they put out there next!
