It’s straight up cold for August up here in Minneapolis. Okay, maybe it wasn’t “cold” but this weekend was abnormally chilly, which meant I was feeling all kinds of cozy and even started buying some Halloween-themed stuff because, well, it just felt right. This has nothing to do with “Broken” from Cold For June, but come on, that band name can’t just be a coincidence, right? It’s as if I was meant to check this song out this morning as I zip up my hoodie in the middle of August (wild, right?!).

You get hit with an undeniable wave of emotion the second this song starts. A slow, steady, and almost acoustic-feeling intro kicks things off and draws you into Cold For June’s world. You can feel tension building, power rising up, and, when it finally hits about a two minutes in, it’s more than enough to throw you to the floor (in a good way, of course). I love how the power of this song comes from so many different places. At the beginning, it comes from the words; as the song moves on, the power comes from the post-hardcore-leaning instrumentation, but throughout this entire song, there’s a sense of undeniable power that comes from the beautiful lyrics. I’ll be honest, I would have loved to have had a bit more grit behind the vocals, but I did like how the clean vocals seemed to continue to convey the depth and raw emotion that is a trademark of this song.
