I’m already having a heck of a morning. I walked into a shitstorm, and I’m not seeing the rainbow on the other side of this storm yet. Taking a minute to check out some new music probably isn’t my best idea right now, but, honestly, it’s going to be the only thing that keeps me sane today, so let’s just dig right in, starting with “My Way” from Wave Raiders.
Wave Raiders are from the Sunshine Coast of Australia, but I didn’t need to tell you that; this energy and brightness of this song says it all. The band calls their style of music “Neo-Surf Rock Psychedelia” and, truthfully, that’s the best way to describe this bop. At three minutes long, this song is fairly shor,t but you really get a good taste for the creativity and power of this band. It’s grungy and crunchy but definitely has a surf-rock element to it that just screams Sunshine Coast. Beyond the way this song will literally knock you on your butt and act as a shot of dopamine straight into your veins is the amount of energy that they bring to this song. Although just a recording, listening to “My Way” takes you away from your current location and places you in the middle of a sticky and sweaty mosh pit in the smallest and stinkiest of dive bars. Okay, that doesn’t sound super delightful, but trust me, it is. I needed an escape right now, and although it was quick, the escape that “My Way” from Wave Raiders gave me was beyond perfect.
